One owl, six colours, and a source for every number.

Security in China is an independent camera-planning site. The identity has one job: make careful, evidence-first work feel friendly enough to use. This page is the reference for how it looks, sounds and moves.

Iris, the night watch

The blue owl is a friendly guide to camera planning. The full body waving pose is the primary illustration across the site. The compact head is reserved for favicons and small app icons.

Why an owl. The name Iris belongs to the coloured ring around the pupil and to the aperture inside a lens. One word covers the animal and the camera, which is most of what this site is about.

How she behaves. She is a colleague, not a salesman. She points at the thing you missed, then gets out of the way. She never celebrates a number that could be wrong, and she is never stern about a mistake in your plan.

What she is made of. Rounded 3D forms, soft studio light, a shield pendant, cream feathers. Deep blue carries the body; amber, coral and teal appear as edges. The illustration is deliberately toy-like: friendly, never threatening.

Expressions

Four states cover the whole product. Pick by what the reader just achieved, never by how the page is doing.

Iris looking delighted
DelightedWins. A plan that fits, a constraint that passes.
Iris looking stern
SternConstraints not met. Never used to shame the reader.
Iris looking thinking
ThinkingOpen questions, unverified claims, missing documents.

Use the mascot to

  • Introduce a tool the reader has not used before.
  • Name a limit: “no verified pairs in this catalog yet”.
  • Close a task: saved, exported, shared.

Do not use the mascot to

  • Recommend equipment or imply an endorsement.
  • Fill space at the end of a sparse page.
  • Point at advertising, or appear inside a calculator result.

Colour

Six colours come straight from the mascot. Blue does the work, coral signs the name, and the rest are reserved for meaning rather than decoration.

#2063CB

Blue 700

Primary. Logo wordmark, headings, links, primary buttons.

#2E8DF7

Blue 500

Interactive accent. Highlights and focus rings; pair with dark text.

#34CBA0

Teal 500

Confirmation. Passing constraints, saved plans, positive states.

#FEBF32

Amber 400

Attention. Estimates, assumptions, figures that need a caveat.

#FC8550

Coral 500

The word “China”. Warm counterweight to the blue.

#7B64FD

Violet 500

Secondary accent. Comparison tools and selected rows.

Neutrals

Slate#5A6B8C
Mist#93A0BA
Line#D9DFEF
Wash#F7F9FF
Paper#FFFFFF

Ratio

Pages are mostly neutral: white paper, Ink text, Line rules. Blue appears where something is actionable. Accents appear only when they carry a status.

Contrast

  • Use white body text on Blue 700. Blue 500 needs dark text or large type; it does not meet 4.5:1 with white.
  • Amber and teal are fill colours. Never set small text in them.
  • Slate on Wash is the lightest pairing allowed for body copy.
  • Status colour never carries meaning alone; pair it with a word.
04

Typography

Poppins is the site typeface. Use a system monospace only for formulas, code and technical values. The original wordmark remains image artwork.

05

Iconography

One open-source line set, drawn on a 24 px grid with a 1.5–1.7 px stroke. Icons are labels, not decoration.

Evidence
  • Stroke inherits text colour, so an icon inside a link is a link.
  • Pair an icon with a word. No icon-only controls except familiar arrows.
  • Do not draw new icons in this style. Use the set, or use the mascot.
06

Illustration

Use the waving owl as the main character. The working pose and expressions support the brand guide. Technical illustrations explain coverage, storage and comparison without replacing the main mascot.

Iris working at a laptop
Working pose. Used once per page at most, next to a task the reader can start.
  • Light comes from the upper left, softly. No hard specular highlights.
  • Keep the full body visible on transparent or plain backgrounds. On dark surfaces, place the original wordmark on a white backing.
  • Never place her over camera footage, floor plans or data.
  • Product images stay photographic and unedited, credited to the manufacturer document.
07

Voice

Plain, specific, and honest about the edges of what is known. No adjectives doing the work of evidence.

Show the work

Name the formula, the document and the review date. A reader should be able to check a number without leaving the page.

Say what is missing

“Not established” is a complete answer. Gaps are information, not a failure to be hidden.

Stay short

One idea per sentence. If a caveat needs a paragraph, it earns a paragraph.

We write

  • “Declared profile, not independently verified.”
  • “Estimates assume a constant bitrate.”
  • “No bench-tested pairs in this catalog yet.”

We avoid

  • “Best in class.” “World-leading.” “Guaranteed.”
  • Rankings we cannot source.
  • Urgency, hype, or a countdown of any kind.

Downloads

Use the artwork as provided. Do not redraw, recolour or re-typeset any of it. If a format is missing, ask and it will be added.

This guide uses the mascot artwork supplied for Security in China. Please do not use her in a way that suggests a manufacturer endorsement, a certification, or a tested compatibility claim.
